Fitness Class Regulations

In order to operate a safe and enjoyable fitness program the following guidelines are in effect:

  1. Every participant MUST fill out a Fair Lawn Senior Center Membership Form, a Health Questionnaire (which must be signed by a Doctor for approval to participate) and be responsible for keeping the information current.
  2. Tie and / or Velcro-fastened athletic sneakers MUST be worn for every class.  This does not apply to Core & More, Tai Chi and Ballroom Dancing.  The following footwear will not be permitted:  slip-on style sneakers, sandals, flip flops, heeled dress shoes, open-toed sneakers or shoes, open-backed sneakers.
  3. Please do NOT wear any perfume, cologne or scented lotions to class, as the fragrance may affect the breathing of the others.
  4. Participants MUST FIRST sign the appropriate attendance sheet legibly before each class.  Everyone is responsible for setting up their own equipment and there is absolutely no “saving spots.”
  5. Classes are limited to 30 people maximum, with the exception of Line Dancing and Ballroom Dance.
  6. Attendees must follow the “Fair Lawn First” model, non-residents may participate if there is room.  If the attendance sheet is filled, one may wait for the next class.
  7. It is recommended by the American Council on Exercise that older adults should have 30-60 minutes of exercise per day.  We respectfully request members to take one class per day unless there is space.  No one may exceed more than 2 classes per day.
  8. Equipment should be obtained before class begins.  If you prefer, you may bring your own equipment but it must remain in your possession.
  9. If an early departure is necessary, please ask a participant nearby to put your equipment away at the end of class.
  10. When class ends, everyone is responsible for returning their equipment, taking their personal items and exit through the back doors.
  11. If you plan on staying for a second class, please allow the participants who have yet to take a class that day to sign in first.  Five minutes before class begins, the instructor will announce to everyone who is waiting, the attendance sheet is available.
  12. Latecomers will not be able to participate.  It is important to arrive on time for class for the following reasons:
    • Warm-up and cool downs are essential parts of the exercise class and are beneficial to you and your body.
    • Walking between other participants to get to the equipment cabinet puts yourself and others at risk for injury.
  13. If unable to attend the fitness classes due to surgery, injury or extended illness, a doctor’s note must be provided in order to return.
