UPDATE:
The Fair Lawn Human Services Department and Food Pantry is now scheduling hours for volunteers to come and help organize, clean and prepare bags for clients in our food pantry. Space is limited and Volunteers will be accepted on a first requested basis. Fair Lawn Teens in need of Community Service hours will receive preference followed by Fair Lawn residents and then non-residents.
We desperately need volunteers EVERY Wednesday morning 9:30am-1:00pm through the end of 2011. Additional days may be added in November and December to prepare for our holiday programs.
Please call 201-794-5333 or email hhs@fairlawn.org to confirm your choice of day. If you require community service hours a letter will be written after you have completed your total hours.

Resident Assistance- Recycling Center (Outdoor/Lifting Required, Age 18+) Assist residents with carrying recycling material from their vehicles to the appropriate bins.

Health/Animal Control:
Dog/Cat Census (Outdoors, Age 15+) Door to door community canvasses to check for proper licensing and rabies vaccinations. Canvasses take place periodically throughout the year.
General Clerical/Office Work (Age 15+) Assist with typing, filing, computer work and answering phones. Monthly Bulletin Board Design (Age 13+) Create monthly bulletin boards which are used in the Health Department to inform residents of upcoming programs or health issues.
Tobacco Control Program (Age 15-17)- Teen Volunteers work with the Health Inspector to ensure that business are complying with Tobacco Sale laws.
Dog/Cat Rabies Clinic (16+) Assist at the biannual rabies clinics held in November and May by filling out rabies form for residents in attendance.
Human Services:
Food Pantry (Lifting Required, Age 14+) Volunteers help sort and organize food items in the food pantry.
Holiday Food Basket (All Ages)- November. Help assemble holiday baskets with food items and other donations for residents in need.
Holiday Gift Wrapping (All Ages)- December. Help wrap holiday gifts for residents in need.
Meals on Wheels Driver (Age 18 & Over)- Drop off food to Meals on Wheels recipients, noon to 1:30pm. Valid NJ drivers license required. All recipients are Fair Lawn residents. Drivers are scheduled once per month or once every two months.
Snowbusters (Age 16+) Volunteers assist with the clearing of snow from sidewalks and a walkway to the home of residents who are unable to do so for medical reasons.
Police Department:
Explorers Program (Age 14-21)- features age appropriate lessons, visits by public safety agencies and field trip to the Bergen County Law and Public Safety Institute and Bergen County Courthouse.
Jr. Citizens Police Academy (Age 11-14)- This successful program is designed to educate and involve young men and women in police operations and to interest them in law enforcement functions whether they enter the law enforcement field or not.
Senior Center (High School Students to Adults)
Bingo Calling (Sat & Sun Only)- Hosts for Senior Bingo.
Clerical/Receptionist- Answer phones and handle light clerical duties.
Gardening/Weeding- Minor landscaping at the Senior Center.
Host or Assist an Activity- Volunteers to teach or share their talent with out Seniors. Assistants are needed to help with current programs.
