Volunteer
Organizations:
The Recreation/Parks Department within the limits of funding always
cooperates and participates with other county municipalities. The
Recreation/Parks Department works together with the Fair Lawn school
system, local civic organizations and other agencies in the development
and operations (financial and administrative) of recreation and
conservation programs for the use and benefit of the residents of the
Borough of Fair Lawn. Some of the volunteer organizations that the
Recreation/Parks Department works in cooperation with are:
Holiday
Celebrations Committee:
The Holiday
Celebrations Committee is an official body appointed by the Mayor and
Council to conduct public affairs and celebrations for the entire Borough
of Fair Lawn. The activities of this committee are directed and supervised
by the Recreation/Parks Department Holidays include: Valentine's Day Card
Contest, Breakfast with the Easter Bunny, Mother's Day Card Contest,
Fireworks, Columbus Day Card/Essay Contest, Halloween Parade, Annual Holiday Lighting of the Borough Hall , Breakfast with
Santa Claus, Annual Holiday Music Festival and other special events held throughout the year.
Youth
Advisory Committee:
The
purpose of this committee is to study the problems of young people in High
School and Middle School. The committee is to formulate plans and programs
concerning, related to, and on behalf of the young people in the Borough.
They are to try and help alleviate problems that exist for young people
among their peers, in school, socially and in other areas in which they
come in contact.
Fair Lawn All-Sports:

The All-Sports
is an independent organization of volunteers working in cooperation with
the Recreation Department to help provide the youth of Fair Lawn with a
diversified program of athletics. This program helps to teach the athletes
about social skills by becoming a member of a team, as well as about
sportsmanship.
Fair
Lawn Football Association: (www.fairlawnfootball.com)
Registration for
football (grades 1-8) and cheerleading (grades 3-8) are in the spring at
the field house located at Vander Plaat Field behind the bowling alley on
Maple Avenue.
Fair
Lawn Street Hockey Association:
This is a group
of volunteer board members who work in conjunction with the Recreation
Department's Street Hockey program. This group was formed in 1988 and now
sponsors the Street Hockey dinners, assists with fundraising projects for
the program and runs the 'Hockey Hut", a small food trailer on the
weekend during games.
Senior
Advisory Board:
This is a group
of Fair Lawn Senior Citizen Club presidents and some other volunteers who
get together monthly to discuss various issues that involve the Senior
Citizen community. Discussions range from information pertaining to the
Senior Citizen Center programs, the meals-on-wheels program for the
homebound, Borough Health Department programs offered, Senior Citizen club
events and other senior issues that involve other people of Fair Lawn.
