Food Pantry / Temporary Assistance:
The Fair Lawn Human Services Department assists borough residents who need help getting through hard times. Funded entirely by private donations, our food pantry and Human Services Trust Account is utilized on a regular basis by many Fair Lawn families who receive food, grocery store gift cards, and assistance paying for past due utilities when necessary. Families interested in receiving assistance can fill out an intake sheet and call our office for more information.

Donations of food and personal products for the pantry are accepted year round and can be delivered to Room 112. For large donations, please call 201-794-5333 before delivery.

Holiday Programs:
The Holiday food drive provides a complete Thanksgiving meal for our needy families as well as stocking the food pantry for the winter months. During the Holiday Gift Drive items from children’s wish lists are placed on our bulletin board where residents can stop by room 112 in the Municipal Building and pick what they would like to purchase.

In the Spring and Summer our food pantry supplies become critically low. Donations of Macaroni & Cheese, Chef Boyardee, Peanut Butter and Jelly, canned tuna, beverages, snacks and personal products are very necessary during this period of time.  The Human Services clerk can always give you updated information on what items are most needed.

Donations of clothing and furniture are not able to be accepted at this time due to space constraints.

Volunteer Opportunities:
If you have some time to give to your community then see what opportunities await you on our volunteer page.

Meals on Wheels:
Meals are delivered to shut-ins who have no one to prepare food and who require special dietary restrictions. The cost is $27.00 per week and includes two meals per day, five days per week. Applicants must sign up for at least 1 month. Volunteer drivers are needed for this program to deliver meals one day per month.

Delivering meals for Meals on Wheels is the most adaptable volunteer opportunity in Fair Lawn. Are you available over your lunch hour on Monday through Friday? Do you have 1 hour a month? We can accommodate your desire to volunteer with the flexibility of our schedule. Volunteer drivers are needed for this program to deliver meals within Fair Lawn. If you have any questions, please call 201-794-5333.

Mini-Bus:
The Fair Lawn Mini-bus is free for borough residents. The buses normally run Monday through Saturday on a schedule and along a pre-designated route. A schedule is available for download: Mini-bus Schedule (Schedule). The mini-bus information line can be reached by calling 201-794-5332 at any time.

Public Transportation:
Schedules for New Jersey Transit routes are no longer available in our office. Information is now provided on the NJ Transit website (http://www.njtransit.com).

Workers For A Fee:
Human Services has a listing of various home services' providers to be mailed upon request. This is a resource list only, providers are not employed by this office nor are they screened by office staff. The following provider categories are: companions, certified aides, drivers for a fee, seamstresses, carpet cleaning, yard work, odd jobs, hairdressers, snow removal, medical transportation, shopping and housekeepers.
